Assembled piece by piece from Australia to New York City, the hottest country ballad at the moment, “We Had It Made,” was created along the journey from Down Under to The Land of the Free. Americana country artist, Chris Erasmus released the single today, August 29. “It’s a traveler song,” said Erasmus, exploring the memories and reflections of a sweet, fiery young romance that was destined to end.
Although the storytelling isn’t the only traveler in this context, as Chris is quite the traveler himself. Originally from Zimbabwe, he has called home to places such as Cape Town, New York, London, and Australia.
The song’s journey began in Australia, where Chris and his co-writer at the time, Amy, started the process of putting feelings into words. But the writing didn’t stop there, 1,000 miles east, in New York City, Chris finalized the lyrics for what would become, “We Had It Made.” To wrap-up the song, Chris had one more pit stop to make, just 100 miles north of NYC, at a recording studio in Connecticut. There, him and producer Scott Jacoby discovered the true sound for this upcoming hit.
The track started with an up-tempo, but after experimenting with different backing vocal variations, they decided to send the song in a completely different direction. Slowing the tempo down and adding mellow instrumentals was the perfect foundation for “discovering this beautiful searching sound,” said Erasmus.
With its vulnerable lyrics, raw vocals, and heartfelt emotion, “We Had It Made,” will have you deep in your feels and rethinking past relationships. The song’s creation process was quite the journey, much like the story it tells, but the final destination made it worthwhile.

“We Had It Made” is out now on all streaming platforms. To stay updated with Chris’s future releases and life updates, follow him on Instagram @cjerasmus and on TikTok @chris.erasmus28.
