Gorillaz are gearing up for their ninth studio album, The Mountain, set for release on February 27, 2026. This project marks a notable moment in the band’s history, as it will be the first full-length release on their own label, KONG, giving the group greater control over distribution and creative direction after years working with major record companies.
The album features performances in several languages, adding to its global sensibility, and includes posthumous appearances from artists such as Bobby Womack, Tony Allen, Dennis Hopper, Mark E. Smith, Proof, and Dave “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur. The rich lineup and wide range of influences make The Mountain one of Gorillaz’s most ambitious collections to date.
The recording process for The Mountain spanned multiple continents, demonstrating the global reach of the project. Sessions took place at Studio 13 in London and Devon, as well as in cities across India including Mumbai, New Delhi, Rajasthan, and Varanasi. Additional recording occurred in Ashgabat, Damascus, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York, reflecting Gorillaz’s continued commitment to blending diverse sounds and influences. The first song released from the album is “The Happy Dictator,” featuring Sparks, which introduces the record’s collaborative ethos. Across The Mountain’s 15 tracks, Gorillaz bring together a remarkably diverse roster of contributors.
In addition to the new music, the band is planning a tour in support of the album, bringing The Mountain to life on stages across the United Kingdom and Ireland in spring 2026, with headline shows at major venues including Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The announcement follows a series of events celebrating Gorillaz’s 25th anniversary, including the immersive House of Kong exhibition and a series of live performances where the album was previewed in full.
