Miley Cyrus Revives 80's Pop in New Single, "Midnight Sky"

Pop Artist Miley Cyrus released a new single on August 14th, titled "Midnight Sky." Her upbeat anthem celebrates newfound singleness, and is reminiscent of 80's synth pop- on the cover art, she dawns a mullet and sparkly purple eyeshadow.

Her lyrics are candid and unapologetic. In the very beginning, she opens with "it's been a long time since I've felt this good on my own." She state that in the past, she's felt that if her relationships don't work out it's considered a "failure," but in this single she's reclaiming herself as her own as she repeats in the chorus, "I don't belong to anyone, I don't need to be loved by you." The combination of the driven beat and heavy bass give the song a contagious melody, and feels like something that would be played at a disco party.

This is her newest release since this time lat year when she released her single "Slide Away." She also collaborated with Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey in November of last year for "Don't Call Me Angel," featured in the motion picture soundtrack of "Charlie's Angels." She has plans to release her seventh studio album, She is Miley Cyrus, later this year. "Midnight Sky" is available to stream everywhere now.
