Anna Vaus Gets First "Women Creators" Scholarship from Miranda Lambert

Belmont University is the alma mater for many big country stars like Brad Paisley, Minnie Pearl, Florida Georgia Line, and maybe one day, Anna Vaus. Anna is the first student at Belmont to receive Miranda Lambert’s “Women Creators” scholarship, and In Charge Country got to talk with her about her success so far.

Anna explained the Women Creators scholarship as one started by Miranda Lambert in order to support a female at Belmont studying song writing or music business and pursuing a career as a song writer or artist. To apply, candidates had to submit two original songs and a short essay on three women in the music industry that they are inspired by. She also did a video on her YouTube channel talking about song writing. While those are the basic requirements, Anna believes the thing that helped her get the scholarship was being genuine to who she is throughout the process, and says it felt “freakin’ unreal” to be chosen by Miranda Lambert, since that is someone she and many others look up to.

Anna was no stranger to the music industry when applying for the scholarship. She has been writing songs since she was a little kid, and even got to open up for Hunter Hayes over the summer in her home town, San Diego. It was a full circle moment, since just two years before her and her friend went to his concert at the same arena. While getting to open for big names, Anna still embraces the smaller, more “home-town” music vibe in Nashville and loves to perform at The Listening Room, Belcourt Taps, and The Bluebird Café.

While she has definitely gone above and beyond getting her foot in the door, the sky is the limit for Anna. Right now she is focused on writing, but hopes to have a publishing deal within the next few years. When asked what advice she could give to others trying to get where she is, she said to “never stop working- do something every day to further your career”.

While not a Nashville native, Anna certainly has the heart of one. It is very apparent when she speaks that she is passionate about her work and the industry. Her music is genuine and relatable, and we expect to be hearing a lot more of her around the music scene! To hear Anna’s music and keep up with her, check out her website here.
